• David Liebman and Richie Beirach have created a pure form of musical dialogue for this release. The small band constellation allows the freedom for endless rubato and loquacious solos that weave in and out of the music and seem to get lost within themselves. This music is grounded in content and intelligence, and will appeal to every jazz lover. • Dave Liebman wrote of his musical partner Richie, “In any band we’ve ever been in together, Richie’s the anchor, more than the bass and drums. His time is perfect.” Richie entered the New York club scene in the 1960s, playing gigs with the likes of Freddie Hubbard and Lee Konitz. He began playing with Dave in the 1980s as a duo and in the band “Quest,” which they founded together in 1981. • Dave’s soprano sax playing is what shapes the ballads on this album. On some of the works, he switches to tenor, which gives a heftier sound, but maintains the duo’s stately passion. This is the duo’s first all-ballad album.
