COMPOSER: Ferruccio Busoni
• The music on this release belongs mainly to Ferruccio Busoni’s youth and is certainly indebted to the great romantic appraoch to the piano of Chopin, Schumann and Mendelssohn, apart from the Contrapunctisches Tanzstuck of 1889 with its more futuristic broadening of the tonal palette. • Later in his life Busoni leaned towards a young new classicism, generated by his instinctive identification with the great J.S. Bach. • This album is a new studio production of the solo concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, presented by the Austrian pianist and conductor Stefan Vladar and his own Viennese Chamber Orchestra. • “As a pianist and conductor in one person, it is possible to convey a better overall impression of these concertos and I understand this more than expanded chamber music as pure solo concertos with orchestra.” - Stefan Vladar • “With Beethoven, you have to have stamina as well as perfection and great vision. Actually, you have to be able to perform almost superhuman things.” Isabelle van Keulen

COMPOSER: Johann Sebastian Bach
• The Bach project that began in 2010 with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Peter Dijkstra will conclude with the complete recording of the Mass in B Minor that was made in April, 2016. It now comprises the four crowning works of Bach in outstanding artistic quality, with renowned vocal soloists and practiced ensembles. • The main emphasis in these works is on Baroque musical splendor, yet reflective moments and intense, heartfelt chorales are equally important elemtns of the solemn oratorios. • Composer Arthur Lourié was born as Naum Izrailevich Lur’ya in 1892. Lourié wasw a charismatic bohemian and Soviet cultural politician who did not return from a so-called official journey to Berlin in 1922. • Lourié was a pioneer of Modernism music and he enjoyed mingling among the poets and painters of the Silver Age and was greatly inspired by them. His musical oeuvre is just as multi-faceted and diverse as the writings of that time.
