COMPOSER: Mieczyslaw Weinberg
• This is the second volume of Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s works for violin and piano. • Weinberg’s Violin Sonata No. 1 covers the path from C minor to C major, a popular tradition of the time while Sonata No. 2 reveals his increasing creative ambitions. Sonata No. 3, has a lyrical tone which dominates the first movement. The structural design is more economical and grows more elaborately throughout. • This release is the final volume in CPO’s complete edition of Max Bruch’s works for violin and orchestra with the astounding violinist Antje Weithaas. • The result of Bruch’s friendships with Joseph Joachim and Pablo de Sarasate are the three works on this album. • The Fantasy, a Konzertstück, and various other pieces not only constitue what is by far the largest work group within his symphonic oeuvre but also without exception occupy the absolute heights in the concert literature of the nineteenth century.

COMPOSER: Bernhard Molique
• This album features Bernhard Molique’s String Quartetts, Op.. 42 and 44. Both works were composed while Molique was in England and he considered them to be situated between classicism and romanticism. • Molique was interested not in showy effects but in substance - a fact reflected in the unchanging movement tiles of his quartets. • Being the most important composer of the Southern German organ tradition, Johann Pachelbell’s works are featured on this release in an all new recording. • These discs are based on a new collection and edition of the extant musical materials. The order of the pieces on the recording initially adheres to the sequence of the chorale settings in the musicological edition.
