COMPOSER: Karl Goldmark
• Karl Goldmark was one of the most popular and frequently performed Central European Romantic composers until the Nazi Regime in the 1930’s. The ostracism of his work continued after World War II, until finally at the end of the 20th century slowly a selective rediscovery of his oeuvre took place. • With this release Thomas Albertus Imberger continues to ending this oblivion of Goldmark’s manifold work. • The repertoire on this release was chosen intentionally, which would seem to suggest that the young musician has been engaged on a path “per aspera ad astra,” from darker realms to brighter pastures. • For after the lightless Bogdanović steeped in minor tonalities, Arnold’s Fantasy movements already include pure major chords, and even more of them can be found in Khalil’s Hommage to Philip Glass, where minor and major thirds steadily alternate with one another, even continuing to resonate in silence after the piece is over. Thus, major prevails over minor, something that is certainly welcime in our increasingly dark times.

ADAMAS QUARTETT BEST OF JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH

COMPOSER: Hans Krása • Ernst Krenek • Alexandre Tansman
• A great concern for the Austrian Adamas String Quartet has always been the treatment of composers whose works were termed “degenerate” and banned during the Nazi regime or who themselves became victims of the barbaric extermination machinery. • On their second album, the critically acclaimed ensemble devotes itself to the string quartet by the Dzech composer Hans Krasa, a work showing an astounding compositional maturity. • This outstanding two-disc set includes the very best of Baroque master composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. His Suites, Concertos, Oratorios, Cantatas, and Motets are all featured here. • Particularly notable on this release are selections from Bach’s timeless Saint Matthew’s Passion, and the Kyrie from his Mass in B minor BWV 232. • The very best Bach artists are featured on this recording, including Evgeni Koroliov, Helmuth Rilling, the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, and the Oregon Bach Festival Chamber Orchestra.
