Wittgenstine, who lost his right arm during World War I, but in no way withdrew as an invalid as many in his situation did. • The Quintet in A major lasts about an hour and sums up the composer’s piano ideal. Throughout the work a lyrical piano solo can be heard along with a slow second movement and a grand finale. • This release is the the first of a new line from the Cugate archives, the Golden Fleece Classics. It is dedicated to the Georgian recordings from the 1990’s. • This album is being released on the 50year jubilee of the Georgian State String Quartet, appearing to be today’s oldest quartet formation, whose members did not change. • Sulkhan Tsintsadze made a major contribution to modern classical music, widely expanding its range of imagery. For this, his music has gone far beyond the confines of his country and gained renown and high acclaim abroad. The contrast between folk music sometimes verging on rough simplicity and the court sphere was a source of inspiration and formed a welcome challenge stimulating this composer’s talent. • The overtures, trios and sonatas recorded for this release display more than virtuosity but are fun to perform and even more enjoyable to listen to. • Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen has been one of the most striking composers from northern Europe over the past half century - a unique personality and a major figure in Danish musical life, even though he considered himself to be an outsider. • In his early works, GundmundsenHolmgreen was inspired by figures such as Bartok and Stravinsky. He’s considered extremely ambiguous and provocative. 8226120 | 636943612026 1 CD | SRP US $16.99 CA $20.99 Holmgreen COMPOSER: Pelle Gudmundsen- ARTIST: Salzburger Hofmusik • Wolfgang Brunner (conductor) ARTIST: BBC Symphony Orchestra • Thomas Dausgaard (conductor) 40 NAXOS OF AMERICA | NAXOS OF CANADA | NEW RELEASE GUIDE
