· Charles Dekeyser began his vocal
instruction under Martine Reyners
and later studied at the Brussels
Royal Conservatoire where he
attended class under bass baritone
Marcel Vanaud.

He has made himself known across
the world for his rich bass voice. He
has performed many concert series
in the last several years which feature
oratorium and Lied repertoire.
·
For this release, Dekeyser has chosen
works from Franz Schubert, Robert
Schumann, Gustav Mahler, and more,
creating an entertaining programme
which shows the singer's versatility.
· This album marks the second
release on Antartica Records. Mise
en Concert captures the live thrill of
utterly refined music making in the
salons of the French connoisseurs.
· Soetkin Elbers is proving herself as
one of the most prominent rising
sopranos. Elbers is a "jack of all
trades" as her vast repertoire includes
operas, oratorios, church cantatas,
contemporary music, lieder and solo
baroque chamber cantatas.
· Dvorak's gift for orchestration,
harmonic treatment, and simple
sincerity are apparent in his
Requiem. The work feels much
less liturgical than others of its
genre, though it is still an uplifting
expression of faith.
· Despite the fact that the work was
written as a Requiem for England,
Dvorak's national feeling can still be
easily heard, especially in the opening
of the fugue which relates to a Czech
hymn from the Gothic period.
· This work has been influential on
many other composers after Dvorak.
The opening motif has been quoted
many times by Czech composers.
· Josquin Desprez was a Renaissance
composer whose works were the most
famous of his time outside of Dufay and
Palestrina.
· Desprez's most famous mass is featured
on this release, his Missa pang lingua. The
work is based on the hymn written by
Thomas Aquinas for the Vespers of Corpus
Christi. This was more than likely Desprez's
last mass. The work's elaborate polyphony
makes it a high point of Renaissance music.
· The included booklet includes detailed
program notes, as well as a charming
"interview" with the composer. Ensemble
Metamorphoses et Biscantor was formed in
1983 by still-director Maurice Bourbon. The
group specializes in a cappella repertoire.
