· The music of Ole Buck is simple and
beauty-seeking, sophisticated and
surprising on its own terms. In some
works he will make do with as few
as five notes, but his incomparable
sense of timing ensures that the
listener never feels for more.
· This release presents four works by
Buck, three of which are inspired by
nature.
· This lovely performance from the
Taylor Festival Choir presents two
very different but both profoundly
spiritual arrangements of the
Catholic Mass.
· Both of these works display their
composers' strong Celtic roots. Celtic
Mass by Michael McGlynn includes
sections in Irish Gaelic between
the traditional Latin phrases.
Mass by James MacMillan sets the
movements in English, and includes
other liturgical texts that make the
work acceptable for a stand-alone
service.
· The Taylor Festival Choir, conducted
by Robert Taylor, has earned itself
a strong reputation for being one
of America's most prestigious
professional choirs.
· The title of this new release
from GENUIN translates into "In
memoriam of a great artist." Each
of the three piano trios featured
on this album- from Tchaikovsky,
Rachmaninoff, and Goldenweiser- all
· It is worth it to note that two of
these pieces were dedicated to other
composers included on this release.
Rachmaninoff's work is dedicated
to the memory of Tchaikovsky, and
Goldenweiser's piece is dedicated to
the memory of Rachmaninoff, tying
all of these works together even
more.
· Winner of the 2015 German Music
Competition, clarinetist Bettina Aust
presents this new release alongside
her brother, pianist Robert Aust.
· For Bettina's debut album, she has
chosen a varied programs, immersing
the listener in a kaleidoscope
of styles, including pieces from
composers Francaix, Burgmuller,
Widmann, Bernstein, and Brahms.
· "The two young musicians supply
from a performance that is a huge
thunderstorm of sound feels...they
mingled rapid pace with crystal-clear
sound..." (Der Tagesspiegel)
